"Bite Your Tongue": Ryan Reynolds Addresses The Possibility Of Deadpool 4*
Ryan Reynolds has addressed the possibility of Deadpool 4 nearly four months after Marvel Studios released
Deadpool & Wolverine. The fact that there is a demand for Deadpool 4 so soon should come as no surprise given the immense success of Deadpool & Wolverine. The record-breaking MCU movie has proven that there is still a lot of enthusiasm for the character while also proving that it is still in capable hands now that Deadpool is officially part of the MCU.
After commenting on the positive response to Deadpool & Wolverine, ExtraTV suggested in an interview with Ryan Reynolds posted on X that he could film "another one," to which he responded:
"Oh now, bite your tongue. That"s uh...I would love that, but there"s a reason it"s been six years since the last one. It just sort of swallows my life whole, and I have four kids that I want to...wouldn"t mind introducing myself to at some point and spending a little time just walking them...walking them to and from school."
Reynolds" comments come just days after Deadpool & Wolverine landed on Disney+ alongside the hour-long documentary, Assembled: The Making of Deadpool & Wolverine. The accompanying featurette certainly validates Reynolds" claims that making Deadpool movies "swallows [his] life whole," as it details the incredible amount of work that went into making that movie alone. The comments also clue us into if and when we can expect to see the Deadpool & Wolverine sequel.
What Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool 4 Comments Mean Reynolds Didn't Say Deadpool 4 Isn't Going To Happen Close Ryan Reynolds" comments may be initially read as him balking at the idea of making another Deadpool movie entirely, but that isn"t necessarily the case. Deadpool & Wolverine is still at the forefront of the MCU zeitgeist with the dust still settling from its impact. It"s no secret that Reynolds adores the character (he expresses as much in the interview above), and
this, combined with the fact that Deadpool & Wolverine was such a money-spinner for Marvel Studios, suggests that Deadpool 4 is already in the pipeline for the future of the MCU.
Deadpool 4 has not yet been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios.
Instead, it seems that
Reynolds is merely suggesting that he would appreciate a substantial break first. Making Deadpool & Wolverine was a significant undertaking in itself, but Reynolds and others were also extremely proactive in marketing the movie on the months-long press tour leading up to its release - which was only a few months ago. Furthermore, leaving several years between the releases of individual franchises in the MCU is pretty standard procedure. None of that is to say Deadpool won"t feature in other movies like Avengers: Secret Wars, however.
Our Take On Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool 4 Comments Ryan Reynolds Deserves A Break, But I Think We'll See Deadpool Again Soon Close
I think it"s perfectly understandable that Ryan Reynolds doesn"t want to think about Deadpool 4 right now, especially with his comments about wishing to spend time with his family. I"m also very confident that this won"t be the last we see of Deadpool even within the next few years, as he is now a core part of the multiversal narrative that will come to a head with Avengers: Secret Wars. While I hope Deadpool 4 doesn"t take the six years Reynolds mentioned sat between Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, a substantial break is certainly well-deserved nonetheless.
