I"m So Excited About Kevin Feige"s Recent MCU Comments & What They Mean For Several Major Marvel Releases*

Kevin Feige has delivered an update on MCU TV shows, and now I"m excited about what his comments mean for future MCU releases. So far, the Multiverse Saga seems to be in the habit of debuting new MCU characters at a dizzying rate, with promises of their return being frustratingly rare. For substantial new players like the Eternals, for instance, we only have comments from Feige when ascertaining when they will return to the MCU, while they remain conspicuously absent from officially confirmed MCU release schedules.
Despite new Disney boss Bob Iger"s claims that the MCU will be pivoting to an ethos of quality over quantity, the upcoming debuts of obscure characters like Wonder Man and Ironheart still indicate otherwise. I"m not suggesting that either show will be sub-par (I"m excited about both), despite a general air of skepticism surrounding examples like the latter, but it"s not as if demand for these characters was particularly high. Thankfully, Feige has assuaged my concerns with an update about MCU TV shows that points the franchise in a promising direction.
Kevin Feige's Newest MCU Comments Highlight An Exciting Franchise Change Kevin Feige Has Promised That MCU Shows Will Be Renewed Close Kevin Feige has recently stated in an interview with Omelete (translated by MCU Film News on X) that we can expect to see more Marvel show renewals. This means more examples of additional seasons for shows that have so far been constrained to just one outing, while Marvel remains tight-lipped about when we can expect to see these characters again. He specifically points to Daredevil: Born Again as an upcoming example, further cementing the notion that the original Netflix series is canon in the MCU alongside other Defenders Saga installments. His full comments can be seen below.

This means series like Ms. Marvel and Moon Knight could be en route to receiving second seasons, much to the delight of many fans like myself. It also stands to reason, given Moon Knight and Secret Invasion ended on significant cliffhangers - though the latter"s "war on aliens" moment may (hopefully) be paid off in another franchise, instead. Evidence additionally suggests that this is a wise move for Marvel Studios, given the current track record of the few MCU shows that have been renewed.
The MCU's Multi-Season History Proves Giving More Shows Multiple Seasons Is The Right Move The MCU's Two-Season Shows Are Among Its Highest-Rated Close Just two MCU shows have been renewed, with only one of these being closely tied to the main events of the MCU. Agatha All Along, meanwhile, is technically a sequel series to WandaVision set to be followed by Vision"s solo series as part of a TV show trilogy. To be fair to Marvel, the official Disney+ slate of MCU shows only started running nearly four years ago, which is a small window to run multiple seasons of multiple shows, but the success of those second seasons certainly suggests that this is where the MCU should focus.

This evidence suggests that Marvel Studios knows what it"s doing with renewed seasons, capitalizing on the warm reception that the first seasons also received. The highest-rated shows within the MCU like Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight are prime targets for renewal based on this alone, while I"m sure not many would mind if Secret Invasion remains a one-season show. Nevertheless, I still think there is an argument to be made for renewing shows that received a more lackluster response.
The MCU Having More Multiple Season Shows Can Fix Plenty Of Franchise Complaints If Handled Right Focussing On TV Shows Might Refresh Views About the MCU Close With the arrival of multiple new MCU characters that don"t seem to be headed anywhere in particular, it can be difficult for casual audiences to feel invested in shows like Echo knowing that the character won"t have a large role to play in mainline MCU installments. Affording Echo a second series, meanwhile, might ramp up enthusiasm for the character as it offers a greater chance for investment in her arc. I"d even wager that enthusiasm for The Marvels might have been a little stronger if Kamala Khan spent a little longer on the small screen.
Echo is the first and only show that falls under the Marvel Spotlight banner, which denotes that the show can be enjoyed without prior MCU viewing.
Investing in multiple seasons of shows could additionally help fight against accusations of stagnation within the MCU, as it offers a more unique viewing experience than the typical movie structure. I"m also hopeful that Marvel Studios remains committed to ensuring its shows follow a more traditional TV structure and avoids making its TV shows akin to episodic movies.
Marvel Cinematic Universe The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a multimedia superhero franchise that began in 2008 with Paramount's Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. The franchise quickly grew in popularity, with Disney eventually buying out Marvel Entertainment in 2009. The MCU consists of dozens of movies and TV shows, most notably Avengers: Endgame, WandaVision, and Loki.
