Agatha All Along Episode 7 Easter Eggs & Marvel References*

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Agatha All Along episode 7
Agatha All Along episode 7 is full of several exciting Easter eggs and MCU references, including major connections to earlier events in this new Marvel series. Facing the next trial on the Witches" Road, this new test sees Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone) taking center stage, offensive witch stereotype costume and all. As a result, this new episode features some pretty cool Easter eggs as Lilia"s powers of divination and struggles with her own personal timeline are finally revealed in full.
The origins of Teen"s backstory as William Kaplan/Billy Maximoff were finally revealed in Agatha All Along episode 6. Now, this new episode sees Billy (Joe Locke), Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), Jennifer Hale (Sasheer Zamata), and Lilia facing the next trial held within a dark and menacing tower while dressed as iconic witches from movies and pop culture. To that end, here are the biggest Easter eggs and reveals in Agatha All Along episode 7.
13 Lilia Is Dressed As Glinda The Wizard of Oz's Good Witch of the South Close Seen falling at the very beginning of Agatha All Along episode 7, Lilia is featured in this episode dressed as Glinda, the Good Witch of the South. Hailing from The Wizard of Oz, Glinda is one of the most well-known witches in pop culture, having helped Dorothy Gale make her way back home to Kansas after her house landed in the land of Oz. Naturally, Lilia is repulsed by the costume (another demeaning stereotype of real-life witches in the MCU). Glinda"s also been portrayed by several different actresses over the years, including Ariana Grande in the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked.
While LuPone is obviously no stranger to Broadway, she"s never performed in Wicked.
12 “Yes...No...Maybe...” Is Wanda Maximoff Alive? Close Billy asks Agatha Harkness directly if Wanda is dead at the beginning of this episode. However, all he gets is a very cryptic response. Even though Agatha says she saw a body, she was the only one who did, and it was when she was still under Wanda"s spell. As such, the ambiguous nature of Agatha"s answer feels extremely intentional, with Marvel Studios clearly leaving the door open for the Scarlet Witch"s possible return in the MCU"s future.
11 Agatha Is Dressed As The Wicked Witch of the West "She's Based On Me..." Close Conversely, Agatha finds herself dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West aka Elphaba, also from The Wizard of Oz and Wicked. Hilariously, Agatha tells Billy that the classic villain was based on her, though Billy seems doubtful and tells her to prove it. Regardless, Kathryn Hahn"s Agatha pulls off the black and green quite well. Additionally, actress Cynthia Ervo plays Elphaba in the upcoming Wicked movie opposite Grande"s Glinda.
10 Billy Maximoff Is Dressed As Maleficent "If The Cheek Bones Fit..." Close Billy Maximoff is dressed as the classic Disney villain Maleficent. Originating from Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent is the imposing witch who creates the spindle that curses Aurora and later turns herself into a dragon by the movie"s end. Maleficent has also received a pair of live-action movies starring Angelina Jolie as the titular witch. Unlike Jennifer and Lilia, Billy is a big fan of his outfit, especially due to his similarly prominent cheekbones.
9 Jennifer Hale Is Dressed As Show White's Hag "I Don't Want To Talk About It..." Close Jennifer Hale finds herself dressed as Snow White"s Hag upon entering this new Witches" Road trial. Transforming herself into a hag to trick Snow White with a poisoned apple, the Evil Queen was Disney"s very first villain in their first full-length animated feature. That said, the MCU"s potions witch is less than enthused about the get-up.
8 Agatha Calls Lilia "Dory" Short-Term Memory Loss Close As Lilia struggles to orient herself within her own personal timeline, Agatha refers to the divination witch "Dory". This is undoubtedly a reference to the animated blue tang voiced by Ellen DeGeneres in Finding Nemo and Finding Dory. As seen in both Pixar movies, Dory suffers from short-term memory loss, hence Agatha"s name-calling as Lilia attempts to remember things out of sequence.
7 Billy Maximoff Pulls The Magician Tarot Card Teasing The Demiurge? Close Doing a Tarot reading for Billy, Lilia pulls "The Magician". Calderu herself refers to this card as fitting as it signifies that Billy is quite powerful with "great potential to turn his goals into reality". This could very well be a tease that Billy has only scratched the surface of his powers, as well as a possible hint that he may not only become Wiccan in the MCU, but also the fated Demiurge. In the comics, Billy is destined to become "The Demurige", one of the most powerful beings in the entire Marvel Universe with immense powers over creation and reality itself.
6 Lilia Foresees A Reunion For Billy Tommy? Or Someone Else? Close During his reading, Lilia also foresees an imminent reunion for Billy. Naturally, Billy"s hope is that this reunion will be with his twin brother Tommy, the entire reason for his journey down the Road. However, it"s also possible that it could be someone else, such as the Scarlet Witch or even the Vision.
5 "Death Comes For Us All" Came From Lilia's First Coven During an earlier trial when Billy was near death in Agatha All Along episode 4, Lilia can be heard saying "Death comes for us all". Now, Agatha All Along episode 7 reveals that this phrase originated from Lilia"s original coven in Sicily, before they all died from fever, as was foreseen by Lilia.
4 Rio is Confirmed As Lady Death The Original Green Witch Close At the end of Agatha All Along episode 7, Lilia discovers that Rio Vidal is none other than the living embodiment of Death herself. Revealed to be the original Green Witch, the episode confirms through multiple previous clues seeded throughout the show that Rio is indeed Death, and that Agatha knew the entire time. As such, it"s going to be fascinating to see just how powerful Rio truly is in the final two episodes.
3 "Time in A Bottle" - Jim Croce You Can't Not Think of Fox's Quicksilver... Fittingly, Jim Croce"s "Time in A Bottle" plays during the credits for Agatha All Along. However, this isn"t the first time this song has been featured in Marvel superhero media, and it"s hard not to think of its prominent use during Quicksilver"s super-speed sequence in X-Men: Days of Future Past. This is especially true considering Evan Peters was featured in the show"s previous episode, the actor who played the X-Men universe"s Quicksilver (and the fake Quicksilver in WandaVision).
2 Lilia’s Flashbacks in Agatha All Along Everything Has Led To This Episode Close Agatha All Along episode 7 confirms that all of Lilia"s seemingly random outbursts seen in previous episodes are all connected to her out-of-sync existence in time. To that end, here is each line in order, as well as the episode where it was first said in Agatha All Along:
  • "Wispy or Kooky?" - Agatha All Along episode 4
  • "Alice Don’t" - Agatha All Along episode 4
  • "Try To Save Agatha" - Agatha All Along episode 3
  • "I Hated This The First Time" - Agatha All Along episode 5
  • "Get Off Me" - Agatha All Along episode 2
  • "You Know We Really Hated Each Other In The Beginning, But Now..." - Agatha All Along episode 3
  • "...I Love You Guys" - Agatha All Along episode 3
When the phrases themselves are put in order, it"s quite heartwarming that some of Lilia"s final words are her appreciation for her new coven and the bonds she formed as they all went down the Witches" Road. Likewise, it"s fascinating to see how Lilia"s out-of-sequence life proved invaluable to the survival of her coven, sacrificing herself once the Salem Seven arrived.
1 Lilia’s Cards In Agatha All Along Episode 7 Representing Each Member of the Coven Close Some of Lilia Calderu"s outbursts throughout Agatha All Along were also names of Tarot cards, those that would be played during Lilia"s trial as seen in episode 7. To that end, here is each Tarot card played (and was previously said by Lilia), as well as the characters and moments each card represents:
  • Queen of Cups - Lilia herself, the intuitive inner voice to be trusted.
  • Three of Pentacles - the entire coven, that which was missing for Lilia (collaboration and a sisterhood).
  • Knight of Wands - Alice and her recent death as the path behind.
  • High Priestess - Jennifer is the path ahead, teasing her key role in the future of Agatha All Along, immense spiritual power (though unable or unwilling to use it).
  • Three of Swords - Agatha holding Billy as the Obstacles, representing heartbreak, sorrow, and grief.
  • Tower Reversed - The windfall, disaster, destruction, sudden upheaval but reversed, which means miraculous transformation.
  • Death - Lady Death herself, representing the destination, "Death Comes for Us All".
Keeping all this in mind, the entire use of the Tarot cards throughout Agatha All Along and the narrative payoff in episode 7 is quite fascinating and quite well done.
The final two episodes of Agatha All Along are set to release October 30th on Disney+.
