Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Discusses One Condition For Potential Star Wars Return*

Having recently returned to the franchise after a near-20-year hiatus, Obi-Wan Kenobi star Joel Edgerton shares his one condition for his next Star Wars return. Edgerton first arrived in the franchise with Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones as Owen Lars, the Tatooine-based moisture farmer who would become the surrogate father to Luke Skywalker. Owen returned for a brief part in Obi-Wan Kenobi, raising an adolescent Luke, but refusing to allow Ewan McGregor's eponymous former Jedi near the young Skywalker.
While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant for Master Gardener, Joel Edgerton reflected on his recent Star Wars return with Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi. When asked about the possibility of coming back again for a season 2 or another project, Edgerton expressed an openness to do so, though had the one condition that it be "a bright idea" for how to expand Uncle Owen's story. See what Edgerton shared below:
I didn't have to push that hard [for the fight], I think there was already a feeling that they wanted to see me mess with a little bit of violence in that series, but yeah, I was definitely keen to push it myself. I don't know, I believe that should only turn up if there's a good valid reason for it, I wouldn't want to invite myself to a party where I don't really belong. I feel like, in many ways, that story has maybe come full circle, or completed itself in the way that it needed to. But I'm sure there's someone that, if they had a bright idea, I would definitely put the hessian on again. I always joke that it's the Tatooine fabric of choice is, it's like a potato sack, like brown, coarse kind of material. I'd love to see someone make a Vogue cover for Vogue Tatooine. [Chuckles]

Edgerton Is Right About Uncle Owen (But Should Still Come Back) While some audiences are keen on seeing an Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2, others are sure to agree with Edgerton's assessment that Uncle Owen's story has more or less come full circle. However, the sheer amount of time between the end of the Disney+ series and the start of A New Hope not only leaves plenty of room for the Golden Globe nominee to return, but also a key dynamic still needing further fleshing out: Luke and Obi-Wan.
The start of Obi-Wan Kenobi saw Owen refusing to let the former Jedi Master into Luke's life both for the concern of his safety, with the Empire strengthening their grip on the galaxy, as well as his resentment for seemingly killing his stepbrother, Anakin Skywalker. The latter was a point of conflict for Obi-Wan through much of the show, namely when he had to square up for multiple rematches against his former Padawan, until he ultimately found some semblance of acceptance following their encounter in the show's finale.
