The DC Universe Is Ignoring One Of The Flash"s Greatest Strengths*
One of the most interesting things about Barry Allen’s run as the Flash has been missing from the DCEU, a problem that not even
The Flash movie is likely to fix. While there have been three live-action versions of Barry Allen – John Wesley Shipp, Grant Gustin, and Ezra Miller – the Flash is only now getting a solo film. That said, Barry has been a key DCEU character since his introduction in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, meaning that the Flash has been part of the DC movie universe for almost seven years now.
Despite introducing a relatively young Barry Allen, the DCEU skipped the Flash’s origin story. Instead, audiences learned in Batman v Superman that Lex Luthor was investigating someone with super speed, followed by the Flash’s proper introduction in Justice League. In addition to skipping Barry Allen’s Flash origins, the DCEU has also ignored the Rogues, a major part of the Flash’s lore that has yet to be done justice in live-action.
The DCEU’s Barry Allen Only Faced One Of The Flash’s Rogues

Captain Boomerang is so far the only Rogue to appear in the DCEU, yet the villain and the hero barely interacted. The Flash fought and captured Captain Boomerang after a quick cut-away scene during the latter’s introduction in Suicide Squad, and it was clear that the actors were not even on the same set. To be more precise, the DCEU’s Barry Allen and Captain Boomerang were never even in the same shot together. Almost seven years have passed since the DCEU’s Flash was introduced, which makes the lack of the Flash’s Rogues on the big screen even worse.
After appearing as a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, Arrowverse’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, and Peacemaker as well as being one of the leads in Justice League, Barry Allen is finally getting his own film with 2023’s The Flash. In theory, The Flash movie's story should be the opportunity to steer away from the bigger DC Universe storylines and focus on Barry Allen’s mythos, of which the Rogues are an essential part. However, The Flash will instead involve the multiverse and feature multiple other DC characters, including but not limited to Michael Keaton’s Batman, Sasha Calle’s Supergirl, and Michael Shannon’s General Zod.

Captain Boomerang appeared in a DC movie for the first time in Suicide Squad, played by Jai Courtney. Boomerang was one of the main villains in the first Suicide Squad movie roster, and the character was one of the few well-received parts of the film. However, unlike Harley Quinn, Amanda Waller, and Rick Flagg, Boomerang did not have a major role in The Suicide Squad, which was both a Suicide Squad sequel and a soft reboot. Instead, Boomerang was placed in the “expendable Suicide Squad”, the team that died at the beginning of the film. Boomerang’s DCEU run was short, and the Flash’s other Rogues might not appear at all.
