10 Essential Star Wars Terms & Names That Were Not In The Original Trilogy*

Not every essential Star Wars term stems from the original trilogy, with many of those only later making their debuts when George Lucas released the prequels. Thanks to its approach of having one single universe in which all stories are somewhat connected, the Star Wars canon is always expanding. Though that can lead to many Star Wars retcons, the franchise has grown used to adjusting or reimagining parts of its lore, as Star Wars stories are rarely told chronologically.
The prequel trilogy changed Star Wars canon forever. The original trilogy was a classic hero's journey told in the form of a space opera, but the prequels incorporated high-fantasy elements and added a great deal of depth to the galaxy. The old Star Wars Expanded Universe had done something similar with the post-Return of the Jedi timeline, explaining why so many important terms were coined (or made their first official appearance) outside the original trilogy.
