Tobey Maguire Spider-Man Trilogy Ignored One Major Plot Hole*

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy was key in shaping the superhero genre into what it now is, but it obviously wasn’t safe from plot holes, and it ignored a big one from the first movie. Spider-Man made his big screen debut in 2002 in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, with Tobey Maguire playing Peter Parker and Willem Dafoe as Spider-Man’s legendary enemy Norman Osborn/Green Goblin. Spider-Man explored the origin story of this beloved hero and followed him through his personal struggles as he became a superhero while he also dealt with being a teenager.
Spider-Man is credited for redefining the summer blockbuster and the superhero genre, and its success made way for two sequels, simply titled Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. Each one saw Peter facing more issues in his personal life and new enemies, including his best friend Harry Osborn (James Franco), who became New Goblin in Spider-Man 3 after learning Peter was Spider-Man in Spider-Man 2. However, the first movie left a major plot hole regarding Peter’s identity and Harry that the other movies completely ignored, but it continues to be discussed.
