Gates McFadden Explains Beverly Naming Picard"s Son Jack Crusher*

WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Star Trek: Picard season 3.Gates McFadden believes that Dr. Beverly Crusher has very good reasons for naming her son Jack in Star Trek: Picard season 3. Jack Crusher (Ed Speelers) is one of Picard season 3's biggest mysteries, as he is at the center of a plot by the villainous Captain Vadic (Amanda Plummer) and rogue Changelings. The revelation that Jack is also the son of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) gives the former USS Enterprise-D captain the prospect of the legacy and family line that he had given up hope for long ago.
Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 2, "Disengage" confirmed what Jean-Luc had suspected, that Jack is his son and that Beverly hid this information from him for over two decades. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Gates McFadden explains how Jack Crusher's name was part of Beverly's attempts to keep his paternity a secret. Read her quote below:

I can understand that if she had named him John, Luke, or Picard, everyone would have made the connection. Everyone was saying why? You know, so obviously, again, I think it's about protection. And it's also in its own way, a signal. Picard would know, [because] Jack was their commonality as well as their own feelings for each other. So it kind of seems very appropriate.
